Bilston, West Midlands
Bilston, The Lunt council estate. Perhaps one of the most extraordinary ghost stories I have ever come across is that of a young couple, I will call them Tony and Tina for want of a better name, were offered a council house in the vicinity of the Lunt Estate. Given the keys, they went to view the property and liked it very much indeed, until they went into the garden. In one corner stood a shed, painted in black and white stripes. Suddenly the doors flew open and out of the shed flocked what can only be described as hundreds of tumbler pigeons of all shapes and colours. Tina knew the type of birds they were because her brothers had kept similar birds at one time. They flew all round the garden and the couple and their two small children. Then in what seemed a few seconds the majority of them were flying in the sky and had left the place. The couple went back inside. "I'm not having those," Tina said, walking into the kitchen and looking out of the back window. "Tony, Tony, they've all gone and you are not going to believe what I'm going to tell you, but so has the black and white shed!" The couple decided there and then to leave the property, this was one house they didn't want! I have known Tony for quite a few years and in truth he wouldn't even have had a problem with one or two ghosts, but hundreds of them flocking round you - well, that's the stuff of Alfred Hitchcock really, isn't it?
Stratford-upon-Avon (Warks)
The Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford, has a ghost that some members of the staff know as the lady in white and has been described as a typical ghostly apparition. Another couple wrote to me speaking of a strange experience of sitting next to a young couple dressed in what they described as the clothes of the Sixties era, who inexplicably disappeared. Very strange that! Strange noises, the movement of glasses and other unexplained occurrences are also said to happen in the Balcony Bar.
Scotland
Culzean Castle has the ghostly walk and sound of a Kennedy piper. This is a haunt that has apparently gone on for a very long time indeed. One of my associates Mike McGhee not only claims to have seen him but also says he plays extremely well.
Lochness in Invernesshire is famous for its monster of the deep but it is also haunted they tell me by three ghosts, two young men and a maid who were locked in a love triangle that saw a boy and girl murdered by another. The loch also has strange lights in the hours of darkness that have been described as a misty blue.
